Seed project: Gender equality in transport policy – a needs analysis

The project aims to strengthen policy development for a sustainable transport system by integrating gender equality perspectives into mobility policy and planning. Through a needs analysis, it explores how feminine and masculine values can be made visible and practically applied to enhance the knowledge of key actors in transport policy.

More about the project

Transport policy has long been shaped by technical and masculine norms, which influence both the solutions that are prioritized and the needs that are made visible. Research shows that a more gender-equal perspective—one that includes both feminine and masculine values—can accelerate the transition to a sustainable transport system.

The seed project "Gender equality in transport policy – a needs analysis" explores how gender equality can strengthen green policy development. Through workshops and interviews with key stakeholders such as the Swedish Transport Administration, the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, and selected municipalities, the project maps how current norms influence decision-making and identifies what is needed to change them.

The goal is to develop concrete recommendations and provide a foundation for future research and development. The results will be presented in a report and at a seminar, and will form the basis for a larger research proposal.

In the long term, the project aims to contribute to new working methods and solutions that can scale up gender equality efforts within the transport sector.

The project is part of the research in the Linnaeus Knowledge Environment: Green Sustainable Development

What is a seed project?

A seed project is a minor project funded by a knowledge environment or a research group at the university. The aim is to launch and promote excellent research. Depending on the financier, a seed project may be to idenfify new or deepen existing collaborations, preferably cross-disciplinary ones, to explore possible research issues in a feasibility study, to collect empirical material, or to write an application for external funding.
