More about the project

The aim of the project was to explore the potential of using renewable materials as water-repellent additives for fibreboards glued with sustainable adhesives. Thus, the new wood panels would be more environmental friendly and recyclable than the current ones, that use carcinogenic formaldehyde adhesives and petroleum-derived wax for their hydrophobation. The entire grant from The Crafoord Foundation was used to buy a laboratory glue blender (Lödige FM 130D, Paderborn, Germany) for the application of the sustainable adhesive and water-repellent formulations to the wood fibres.

The project is part of the research in the Group of Forest Products research group.
