Welcome to this page. I am Anders Fröjmark, Associated Professor of History at Linnaeus University. I am based at the University Campus in the historic port of Kalmar, Sweden, but teach at the University's Växjö Campus as well. Before coming to this University, I made a one-year post doc at l'Université de Paris X-Nanterre.

Teaching

Teaching in classes of History and related subjects, such as the History of Scientific Thinking. Some of my teaching is done in collaboration with other faculties where I can add an historic perspective. Excursions are parts of my teaching.

Research

My research is centered on the Scandinavian Middle Ages. Many publications deal with the cult of saints. The sources that this significant factor in medieval religious and social life has produced can be used for a variety of questions concerning for example belief, values, social patterns, and diseases.
I am a team-member of the project Mapping Lived Religion – medieval cults of saints in Sweden and Finland, with VR (Swedish Research Council) funding 2019–2023.
Another project deals with conditions of female exercise of power in the Late Middle Ages, with Duchess Ingeborg Håkansdotter (1301–1361), and Scandinavian Union Queen Margaret (1353–1412) as examples.
Apart from this, I also take an interest in historical and contemporary relationships between Scandinavia and the Baltic Countries. During the years 2017–2019, I was part of the Erasmus-funded project Baltic Sea History Project (BSHP).

Commissions

International cooperation with universities in e.g. the Baltic States, Belarus, and the USA. In 2001, I had a grant from STINT as visiting scholar at the University of Hartford, Connecticut.
Collaboration with cultural heritage institutions in Sweden and Finland in the framework of the project Mapping Lived Religion – medieval cults of saints in Sweden and Finland.
Member of the Royal Society for the Publication of Manuscripts Concerning Scandinavian History (Kungl. Samfundet för utgivande av handskrifter rörande Skandinaviens historia) since 2008.
