I am an environmental geochemist with expertise in environmental risk analyses. I work mainly with understanding environmental contaminant behavior and potential human exposure, and do so by combining chemical analyses of soil, water and biota with different dispersion and exposure models. Since 2019 I am also vice head of my department.

Teaching

I teach at both undergraduate and graduate level courses, mainly in Environmental Chemistry, Environmental Risk Analysis and Risk Management of Contaminated sites. In addition, I supervise students during their degree projects.

Research

You hardly need to be an environmental chemist to list a number of chemical substanses that we humans begun to use on a large scale before realizing that they could do severe harm to our environment and to ourselves. My vision as a researcher is to contribute to a safer environment, through knowledge about environmental contaminant behavior and strategies to reduce risks from contaminant exposure. In my research group we currently study:

  • conditions for mobilization of metal pollutants at old glassworks sites in Småland;
  • contamination of vegetables in urban environments;
  • how application of biochar to soil and water can reduce leakage of metal pollutants and nutrients;
  • environmental and health risks associated with so-called TCE elements, and;
  • the importance of fish consumption for human exposure to PFASs.
