Professor Carsten Sørensen is a visiting professor at the Department of Informatics at Linnaeus University. He is also a professor at the Department of Digitalization at the Copenhagen Business School, Denmark. With a distinguished career spanning over three decades, Professor Sørensen is a globally recognized expert in digital innovation, mobile technologies, and the organizational impacts of IT. Carsten holds a BSc (Math), MSc (Comp.Sci.), and PhD (Comp.Sci.) from Aalborg University, Denmark.
Prior to joining CBS, Professor Sørensen worked 25 years at the London School of Economics (LSE). At LSE, he earned a reputation for his pioneering research on how digital infrastructures and platforms reshape industries, businesses, and society. His insights have been instrumental in understanding the evolving role of digital technologies, particularly in the areas of digital transformation, mobile computing, and the future of work. Since 1993, Carsten has periodically been a visiting scholar at Gothenburg University, University West, Umeå University, and Halmstad University.
Carsten is a trustee in the JITTA Trust overseeing the JIT and JITC journals. He instigated LSE’s joining Hedera.com and served on the Council and in the Treasury until he left LSE. He served on the Board of Directors of LSE Enterprise and is a Non-Executive Co-Founder and Board Advisor for RedGirraffe.com. He was also previously a member of the Advisory Board for the iSociety project at The Work Foundation and an Academic Advisor to The Institute for Innovation & Information Productivity. Since the late 1980s, Carsten has been actively involved as a consultant and executive educator. Carsten’s research has been widely published in leading journals, including MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research (ISR), The Information Systems Journal (ISJ), the Journal of Information Technology (JIT), Information & Organization, The Information Society, the CSCW Journal, and the Scandinavian Journal of Information Systems. He served as Senior Editor for The Information Systems Journal for a decade. Additionally, he has supervised or co-supervised 25 PhD students to completion and has examined 41 PhD candidates.
