Cecilia Fagerström is a registered nurse, PhD and professor in nursing science at Linnaeus University. Besides her degree in nursing, she has a degree in Social care with focus on elderly care and management. Today she is working at Region Kalmar län as a science leader. At the university CF is in charge of supporting the organization to integrate research in the clinical everyday work. In 2011 she received the award Promising researcher 2011 from the Swedish Gerontological Society.

Research

Her research interests include health and quality of life of older people, their living conditions, needs and care in relation to decreased functional ability during the aging process. In some of her ongoing projects, the focus is to investigate individuals’ self-care management and the engagement process in the digital transformation in health care. Research is also focused on person centered care, and seamless care organization. At the moment she is involved in several ongoing research projects; SNAC (www.snac.org), digital decision support system together with Rikssår, sedentary behavior and self-care management (planning and monitoring) and Best practice of integrated care. The projects are funded by national grants, The National board of health and welfare, Vinnova, Region Blekinge and Familjen Kamprad stiftelsen.

The focus in the projects is older people health, care, selfcare as well as ehealth/mhealth and different designs and methods are used aiming to answer the research questions; longitudinal-, cross-sectional, clinical trials, co-design/participatory design, concepts analysis and qualitative designs. The ambition in the projects is to better understand the patients´ and staff´s situation when transforming health care delivery, including the use of innovative ehealth/mhealth technology for health promotion and better health outcomes. The activities include development/validation of a health application and measurements, deepen the knowledge about older people’s life condition and the interaction between the patient and the health care organization. CF has been and is advisor for PhD students.

CF is a member and the co-PI of the research group ReAction.

Commissions

She is a member of several research and academicals scientific boards, Between the years 2013-15 she was member of The University board of the Blekinge Institute of Technology (BTH) and during the period 2017-19 she has an assignment by the Swedish government and is the nomination person for external members of the BTH university board. CF is active in Kliniska studier Sverige, and is a member in the Faculty board of Faculty of health and life sciences at Linnaeus University.
