I am a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellow in marine microbiology. My interest lies in environmental microbiology, with a particular focus on the influence of microbes on our ecosystem. Throughout my academic and professional career, I have had a profound passion for nature and sought knowledge that can provide me with a deeper understanding of our surroundings. To do so, I combine fieldwork and molecular biological methods with bioinformatics. I have also engaged in techniques such as microscopy and single-cell targeting.

Teaching

I have supervised bachelor's and master's students in their theses and individual projects. Additionally, I participated in a Citizen Science project, which included two outreach events.

Research

My research focuses on the interplay between primary producers, nitrogen fixation, and particle dynamics in aquatic ecosystems.

Primary producers play a crucial role in capturing roughly one-third of excess carbon dioxide and converting it into organic particles, central to the ocean's biological pump. These particles function as a micro-niche for diazotrophs. Diazotrophs, specialized microbes capable of nitrogen fixation, provide a significant portion of nitrogen input into oceans, supporting primary production. Understanding this interplay is crucial, as it can lead to the expansion of oxygen-depleted zones, which negatively impact fisheries, oceanic health, and the entire food chain.
