I am a Senior Lecturer in Library and Information Science at the Department of Cultural Sciences and the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. I earned my PhD in 2024 from Åbo Akademi University, Finland, and hold a Doctor of Political Science in Information Science. Previously, I obtained a Master of Arts in Library and Information Science from Lund University.

I have a background as a librarian and have worked in all types of libraries since 2004, the last 14 years as a teaching academic librarian.

I have worked as a teaching librarian for over 20 years, teaching students and pupils information literacy or media and information literacy. Since earning my PhD, I have also supervised and examined theses at both undergraduate and advanced levels in primary and special education programs.

Teaching

At LNU, I teach, supervise, and examine in the bachelor's programs in Library and Information Science both on campus and online. The courses I teach on campus in 2025 are:

  • Documents in Theory and Practice (course coordinator and examiner)
  • Library and Information Ethics II (course coordinator and examiner)
  • Knowledge Organization I: Classification and Subject Indexing
  • Media and Information Literacy
  • Project Work in the Library and Information Sector: Theory and Practice (co-course coordinator and examiner)

Online, I teach the courses:

  • Knowledge Organization I: Introduction to Knowledge Organization and Classification (course coordinator)
  • Information Retrieval
  • The Librarian as a Mediator
  • Knowledge Organization II: Metadata in Theory and Practice

In addition, I supervise students' theses.

In the fall of 2025, I will also guest lecture in the master's program in Library and Information Science at OsloMet, Oslo Metropolitan University, Norway.

Research

My research stems from my practice as a teaching librarian in teacher education, where students' learning of information competencies is the subject of study, which was also the focus of my dissertation.

I am particularly interested in students' and pupils' cognitive and emotional experiences in the learning process, specifically in learning information retrieval skills and other information competencies.

My research is positioned within the field of Library and Information Science, specifically information behavior, where people's behavior in relation to information in a broad sense is explored. In my research, the focus is on people's internal behaviors in the form of cognitive and affective processes in learning processes. Using cognitive and educational psychological explanatory models, I try to understand how students and pupils learn information competencies or information skills and thus how learning contexts can be designed to support learning.
