Göran Gerdin
Associate ProfessorI am an Associate Professor in the Department of Sport Science where I am currently responsible for the physical education and health teacher education programme and internationalisation.
My teaching and research focuses on:
- making visible and challenging dominant norms and values (discourses) linked to the body, gender, physical activity, sport and health in the school subject health and physical education (HPE);
- developing teaching practices that promote inclusion, equity and social justice in school HPE and teacher education; and
- contributing with sociological perspectives on participation in sports and coaching.
I am on the editorial board for the journals Curriculum Studies in Health and Physical Education and Sport, Education and Society as well as a convenor in the Research in Sport Pedagogy network for the European Educational Research Association (EERA). I am also the author of Boys, Bodies, and Physical Education: Problematizing Identity, Schooling, and Power Relations through a Pleasure Lens, co-author of Social Justice Pedagogies in Health and Physical Education and the co-author of the edited book Critical Research in Sport, Health and Physical Education: How to make a difference.
