Professor in Art History and Visual Studies

Teaching

I teach at all levels in our courses on art, visual arts, architecture and design, and supervise independent student projects. My areas of expertise are gender, handicrafts, arts and crafts, architecture, design and art pedagogy.

Research

I conduct research in three main areas: art pedagogy, crafts/design and cultural heritage. In the area of cultural heritage, I conduct research in the project "The soft cultural heritage" (with Karin Gustavsson and Anneli Palmsköld see https://www.rj.se/anslag/2022/det-mjuka-kulturarvet/ ) which is based on an inventory called Sweden's folk textile art, carried out by Lilli Zickerman (1858-1949) and "The performativity of the soft cultural heritage" (funded by the Thuréus Foundation for Research and Natural Heritage for Culture, Nature, Literature and Art.) Together with Anneli Palmsköld, I have co-authored an article on Swedish handicrafts entitled "Handicrafting Gender: Craft, Performativity and Cultural Heritage" in an anthology on Gender and Heritage (ed. Wera Grahn and Ross Wilson, published by Routledge 2018).

I also edited and contributed to the anthology Konsthantverk i Sverige, part 1 (2015), an anthology on Crafting Critical Heritage (2016) and a chapter in a textbook on Performativity: Theoretical Applications in Art Science (2017). During 2014–2015, I was project manager for the Vinnova-funded preliminary study “Skava mot normen” (Breaking the norm), which was designed for a norm-critical testing of future forms of housing. In the area of art pedagogy, I have found a context within the project “Impact of aesthetic activities on life quality, mental speed and neuroconnectivity in Parkinson patients” within the framework of the Cultural Science Research Team (CSRT) together with Max Liljefors and Åsa Alftberg and Ellen Sunesson (until 2015). The project examines art exhibitions for people with dementia at a number of art institutions that are part of the Alzheimer Foundation’s national project “Meetings with Memories”. The aim is to contribute to the development of methods for art education activities and, ultimately, to meet the societal challenges posed by an aging population and an expected increase in dementia. This has resulted in a series of chapters and conference papers.
