Current research directions covers development and design of computer supported knowledge work systems within social learning contexts. The research has a strong focus on user participation and involvement where the aim is to better reflect the processes of creating and maintaining shared meaning and understanding. This becomes especially important in globalized settings where possible number and types of networks of practices that knowledge may flow through increases in scale and complexity, challenging the constraints of the situated practice wherein it is generated. Therefore the research, which is conducted both empirically and theoretically, takes as its basis social and situated learning, knowledge management, and design theories. Example of empirical work based on industry involvement is the EU-funded research project Dynamite, 2006-2009. Here, the work concerned the development of a computer-based Decision Support System for maintenance officers within the production industry. The support system was designed in close participation with industrial partners from Fiat, Volvo, and Goratu.
