I am Professor in Caring Science with a focus on psychiatric care at the Department of Health and Caring Sciences. My areas of interest include mental illness, psychiatric and forensic psychiatric care, the theoretical foundations and development of caring science, as well as didactic approaches to support learning. I am teaching caring science theory and method at all educational levels.  I am a Director of Studies for the PhD programme in Caring Sciences and I lead the research group Lifeworld-led Health, Caring and Learning (HCL).

An important driving force in my research is to contribute knowledge that can shed light on and improve the life situation of people with mental illness and disorders. My research focuses on what it means to live with and receive care for mental illness, and what it means to care for people with mental illness. I also focus on what constitutes caring and the significance of the caring relationship in promoting health.

As the scientific leader of the research environment Health, Caring and Learning based on a Lifeworld-Theoretical Foundation (HVL), I work to contribute subject knowledge and learning environments such as clinical education at ULVE (Developing and Learning Care Units). I am also the scientific leader of the research group Social, Municipal, General and Forensic Psychiatric Care (SKARP)

Teaching

Over the years, I have taught courses on mental illness, psychiatric care, supervision, and caring science as a discipline, including its concepts. I also supervise and examine theses at both undergraduate and advanced levels. At the research level, my focus is primarily on the theoretical foundations of caring science, epistemology, and methodology based on a lifeworld-theoretical foundation, and I serve as course coordinator and examiner at the doctoral level. I also supervise doctoral students in projects related to mental illness, forensic psychiatric care, and psychiatric care.

Research

My research is primarily focused on mental illness, such as stress-related disorders, psychiatric care, and forensic psychiatric care. A significant part of my research is phenomenologically grounded in a Reflective Lifeworld Approach (Reflective Lifeworld Research, RLR).
