Insurance

As an international student, you might be covered by an insurance through the university. Your insurance depends on if you are a fee-paying student, exchange student or EU/EEA student. Please read the information below depending on what type of student you are.

Healthcare

If you need medical care, always bring your insurance documents or EU health insurance card if you are an EU citizen. For 24-hour healthcare advice, call 1177. This service is free of charge and available in English. In case of an emergency dial 112 for ambulance, police or the fire department. The 1177  website provides information about medical issues, on self-care, local health services and more in Swedish. As a student in Sweden, you have the right to use the Swedish healthcare system. There are no mandatory vaccinations for entering Sweden or travelling within the EU. Medical professionals, including doctors, nurses and dentists typically speak fluent English. 

Vårdcentral - healthcare centre

In Sweden, district healthcare centres are called vårdcentral. For healthcare provision (consultations with a doctor or nurse etc.) please contact your local healthcare centre. In Växjö you will find Vårdcentralen Teleborg close to the campus. Phone number 0470-58 67 70, or +46 470586770 from an international number. Wait for the speaker voice to say “For information in English press 8”. This takes a about 1.2 minutes into the call. Follow the instructions and hold to talk to a nurse and make an appointment. You have to make an appointment for all matters.

In Kalmar Linnaeus University has arranged with Region Kalmar that international students may turn to Stensö hälsocentral (phone +46 48081850) and Kvarnholmens hälsocentral, (phone +46 48081960) Should these two clinics both be fully booked you will be referred to the medical clinic of the week.

Charges

Costs differ depending on what country you come from and what kind of insurance cover you have. You may be eligible for subsidised healthcare in some cases. In order to receive subsidised healthcare it is sufficient to be registered as a resident in Sweden or to have an EHIC-card from your home country, i.e. a card acknowledging the fact that you are insured in an EU/EEA country or in Switzerland. Student Welfare Office at Linnaeus University

Linnaeus University has a Student Welfare Office that provides professional counseling at no cost.
