Paying tuition fees

In general, citizens of countries outside the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA), and Switzerland are required to pay both an application fee and a tuition fee.
If you are required to pay tuition fees you will have to pay the first installment before the start of each semester.
Exemption from tuition fees
If you have a tuition fee condition on your admission this will show on your Notification of Selection Results. Then your admission is conditional up until you have payed your tuition fees or notified us that you are exempted from paying fees and providing sufficient documentation that supports your case.

If you meet the criteria for a tuition fee exemption, you must notify us. Please upload the required document proving your exemption and email the Admissions Office with your application number. We will then review your case.
Deadlines for paying tuition fees
Tuition fees for the first semester of a programme and for courses must have been received in Linnaeus University’s bank account no later than:
- 1 June for studies starting in the autumn semester.
- 1 December for studies starting in the spring semester.
If the payment has not been received by this date, your admission will be automatically revoke and you cannot start your studies at Linnaeus University.
Tuition fees for the second and later semesters of a programme must be received in Linnaeus University’s bank account by:
- 1 August immediately before the relevant autumn semester
- 1 December immediately before the relevant spring semester
Please note that if the decision on admission is made later than 10 days before the above dates, Linnaeus University may decide to grant an exception to the tuition fee payment deadline. Where such an exception is granted, the payment period is 10 days.
Paying your invoice
Before making your payment, it is important that you read through the Local regulations for tuition fees to understand the rules and conditions.
Tuition fee payments are made in instalments before each semester begins on a set deadline (see above).
Please go to Ladok for Students to access your invoice.
Once you have downloaded the invoice, you can proceed with the payment by following the provided instructions. To enable us to match your payment with your application, please make sure to include the reference number with your payment.
After payment
As soon as your payment has been registered by Linnaeus University, you will receive payment confirmation on your Ladok for students account. Your admissions notification (Notification of Selection Results) is the only official admissions letter even after payment. Please note that your status at University Admissions will remain as conditionally admitted.
The information regarding your tuition-fee payment will be automatically transferred to the Migration Agency. Therefore, they do not need a confirmation of payment from you.
If you need to apply for a refund
Linnaeus University may refund all or part of the tuition fee if there are special reasons preventing the student from taking part in the relevant course or programme. For further details, plese see Local regulations for tuition fees.
Please note that tuition fees are only refunded if you have not registered for your studies.
To request a tuition fee refund, please complete the Request for refund of tuition fees form.
Submit the complete form along with:
- a copy of your passport
- evidence for the refund reasons
Send all documents to tuitionfees@lnu.se.
The decision on applications for tuition fee refund is made by the Section Manager at the International Office at Linnaeus University, following an individual assessment of each application.

Please note: An administrative fee of up to 10,000 SEK applies for refund.
FAQ
How long does it take for my payment to get registered to my LNU tuition fee account?
As there are several actors involved in the transaction you should not expect the payment to be registered the next day. If you pay by credit card it can take up to five working days, and a lot longer if you make an international bank transaction.
Below you will find answers to the other frequently asked questions about application and tuition fees at Linnaeus University.
Can I pay course by course?
Students within a programme can not pay course by course. Tuition fee payments are made in instalments before each semester.
The tuition fee per semester is the same regardless of the individual fees of the courses included. The initial payment for a programme always covers 30 credits, irrespective of the pace of study.
Can I pay the tuition fee in more than one transaction?
You can pay the tuition fee through several bank transactions as long as these take place close together and the full amount is paid by the due date. Each payment shall state the applicable OCR number on the invoice.
Do I have to pay a tuition fee for re-registration on courses?
Once you have paid a tuition fee for one course, you do not have to pay again when registering for the same course.
How do I know that you have received my payment?
As soon as your payment has been registered by Linnaeus University, you will receive payment confirmation on your Ladok for Students account.
Are there any scholarships available?

Will I have to pay the tuition fee in order to get a residence permit for studies?
Yes, students who are required to pay fees will have to pay for their first semester of studies before a residence permit for studies can be issued. Students will also need to show that they can support themselves during their studies. For other rules concerning residence permits for studies, see the Swedish Migration Agency website.
What happens if I pay more or less than the required tuition fee due to exchange rate differences?
The tuition fee must be paid in Swedish crowns (SEK) to avoid exchange rate issues.
If there is a difference between the required amount and the actual amount paid, the following will apply:
- If you have paid more than 1,500 SEK over the required tuition fee, the excess amount will be refunded to the same account from which the payment was made.
- If you have paid less than the required amount and the difference is less than 1,500 SEK, you must make an additional payment to cover the remaining tuition fee.
