Humans are continuously exposed to nanoparticles (NP)s which can be inhaled, swallowed or penetrate through the skin. Inside the body the NPs have the capacity to activate the innate immune system, generating mediators which can be contributing factors in human diseases such as obstructive pulmonary disease, arteriosclerosis and cancer.
In this talk Kristina Nilsson-Ekdahl will describe a whole blood model which they have developed to monitor activation and interaction between components of innate immunity induced by NPs in order to differentiate the toxicity of different species of NPs.
