About the seminar
Yikun Wu (Orlando): Troubling Age: The Discursive Limits of Subjectivity
In this presentation, the concept of age subjectivity is mapped out with the analytic tools of subject, object, abject and reject. Apart from demonstrating a niche of age in these critical terms, it interprets that the niche is both produced and regulated by a range of discursive limits, in particular the heteronormative view of age which prohibits the subject from inscribing the meanings of the opposite ages.
Bio
Yikun Wu holds a PhD in English Literature from Nanjing University, China. His recent project analyzes that current drama and theatre studies place age performativity in a handmaiden relation to Judith Butler’s performativity of gender. It calls into question the development of age performativity which inadequately deals with the distinction between age and gender, as well as the problematics which emerge from the uncritical transposition of Butlerian gender performativity.
Ines Tebourski: William Blake and Multimodal Analysis
This presentation seeks to present the findings of a multimodal study of Blake’s illuminated poetry. It aims at presenting the different parts of my study, the theories adopted and the way multimodal analysis helped in shedding light on parts of Blake’s works which could not be otherwise highlighted. Multimodality is presented as an umbrella term which covers many fields of study that include the literary, the linguistic and the artistic. The main goal of this presentation is to discuss my work which may help in spotting its weak points.
Keywords: William Blake – illuminated poems – multimodal analysis
Bio
Ines Tebourski is a university teacher and a PhD student working on the interface of poetry and visual art in William Blake’s illuminated poetry. Her major interests are romantic poetry and multimodal studies.
