Autonomous Weapon Systems and the Liability Issue in International Criminal Law

Institutionen för rättsvetenskap bjuder in till Linnaeus Law Talks.

Lecturer

Elin Lindfors is a Doctoral Candidate in International Law (LL.D.) at Örebro University. She obtained her Master of Laws (LL.M.) Degree in Human Rights Law at Queen Mary University of London. Elin’s research interests include various areas of international law such as international criminal law, the law of armed conflict and human rights law.

Abstract

Elin’s doctoral dissertation examines individual criminal responsibility for international crimes that have been perpetrated with the use of autonomous weapon systems. The thesis investigates whether autonomous functions in weapon systems create issues for establishing the actus reus and mens rea of international crimes by discussing general conditions for criminal attribution, such as causation, levels of intent and modes of liability.
