e-Mining using urea for valuables

Den 12 december håller Subramanian Suriyanarayanan en föreläsning inom institutionen för kemi och biomedicins seminarieserie.

Om seminariet

In this seminar, I will give a brief introduction of my scientific journey in Linnaeus University in bringing sustainable tools in designing my research career. Then I shall discuss about the strategy in recovering and recycling critical elements towards e-waste management.

Gadgets and appliances have become an indispensable part of our life. Each one of them comes with a shelf life. Once they reached their shelf life or replaced with new model, they are either discarded or given to the local vendor and that gadget is forgotten like a regular trash (e-waste). Spent electronic and electrical gadgets, when stockpiled and discarded as landfills (e-waste), have serious impact on environment. The scrap components in e-waste contains toxic materials, base metals (Fe, Cu, Al, etc.), precious metals (Au, Ag, Pt, Pd, etc.), critical metals (Co, In, Sb, Te, Ta, etc.) and rare earth elements (REEs) in high concentration than their primary ore. Here in, I will discuss about handling of e-waste in view of extraction, recovery and recycling of critical element from spent lithium-ion batteries (LiBs) via environmentally benign, economically viable and non-toxic media using urea derivatized non-ionic deep eutectic solvents (ni-DES). Reliability of this method in handling other e-wastes shall be discussed.

Seminariet hålls både på plats i sal Azur, hus Vita i Kalmar, samt via Zoom på den här länken.

Seminariet hålls på engelska.
