UiF: Såddprojekt - The Makings

Abstrakt

In “The Makings”, our research interest lies in teacher education and professional development, focusing on teachers’ identities. This interest is driven by concerns regarding why teachers leave the profession and why the teaching-learning practices promoted by curricular documents and programmes for teacher education (TE) or professional development (PD) may not be implemented in school classrooms. We investigate the professional development of preschool [student] teachers, preschool class teachers, mathematics [student] teachers, and mathematics teacher educators. The project aims to document and understand the variability in how teachers respond to situations in their local practices. To achieve this, we primarily employ a framework known as Patterns of Participation (PoP), although Cultural Identity, Positioning Theory, Discursive Psychology, and Enactivism are also utilised. On one analytical level, PoP seeks to understand the role of other practices and discourses (e.g. reform recommendations, collaboration with colleagues, theoretical components of the teacher education programme) in shaping the teacher's contributions to interactions during specific teaching and learning episodes. At another level, we utilise the framework to examine individual episodes and identify trends and developments in the teachers' contributions to the practices that evolve in mathematics classrooms.
