Drawing on cultural sociological and cultural criminological perspectives, Filippa's research focuses on processes of meaning-making and identity in group cultures, deviance, gender, and stigmatization.

Filippa is the recipient of the Prince Bertil Fellowship from the Sweden-America Foundation (2025-2026) for doctoral studies at the Center for Cultural Sociology, Yale University.

Filippa’s dissertation project explores how drag participants construct group identities, gender, and how they manage stigma. Utilizing an ethnographic method, Filippa examines how these themes are performed and narrated within the culture, how and why such constructions become meaningful, and what consequences they have. Furthermore, the project focuses on stigmatization processes directed toward drag culture and how drag artists negotiate their identities in relation to broader cultural narratives.
