Docent/ForskareJag är docent i miljövetenskap och forskar inom geokemi/geobiologi. Forskningsprojekten handlar bl.a. om hur växthusgaser bildats och konsumerats av mikroorganismer djupt ner i jordskorpan, förekomst av svamp djupt ner i berggrunden, hur liv utvecklats djupt nere i berggrunden, mikrobiell kolonisation av meteoritkratrar geotermi, och om hur tungmetaller (t.ex. uran) tas upp i mineral under mikrobiell aktivitet.

Undervisning
Jag undervisar i kurser i miljövetenskap. En viktig del av min undervisning innebär också handledning av examensarbeten, doktorsarbeten och postdocs. Jag är programansvarig för magisterprogrammet Miljöriskanalys och masterprogrammet i Environmental Science and Sustainability.
Forskning
Mina forskningsprojekt handlar om geokemiska och geobiologiska processer i djupbiosfären, speciellt om växthusgasen metans roll i mikrobiologiska processer djupt ner i berggrunden. Av speciellt intresse är meteoritnedslagsplatser, där jag spårar uråldriga spår av liv och de astrobiologiska konsekvenser som denna kunskap ger.
Forskningen involverar även karaktärisering av samspelet mellan eukaryoter (främst svamp) och prokaryoter (bakterier och arkéer) i dessa djupa miljöer, speciellt hur de är involverade i metancykeln.
Ett annat forskningsspår inkluderar hur mikrobiell aktivitet påverkar transport av tungmetaller (t.ex. uran) i syrefria grundvatten, och hur ämnena kan tas upp i mineral, och därmed "förstenas", och hindras att spridas med grundvattnet. Detta är av intresse både för kontaminerat dricksvatten och slutförvar av kärnbränsle.
Mina forskningsprojekt är finansierade av bl.a. Vetenskapsrådet, Formas, Crafoord-stiftelsen, National Science Foundation (USA), Svensk Kärnbränslehantering AB, Kalmar kommun/Linnéuniversitetet-samverkan.
