Många vet precis vad de vill studera. För min del var valet av utbildning en ren tillfällighet, jägmästarutbildningen var mitt tredjealternativ. Jag tycker det blev bra ändå, särskilt då jag fått möjlighet att interagera med svenskt skogsbruk och omgivande samhälle.

Som utpräglad generalist stimulerar tvärvetenskapligt samarbete mig i hög utsträckning. Jag söker alltid förklaring och samband varför saker och ting är som de är. Mitt kompetensområde är ekofysiologi, skogsproduktion och skogsskötsel, där effekten av klimatförändringar kopplar samman alla dessa delar. Jag har arbetat i synnerhet med hur näringsförhållandena och hur framtida klimatförändringar kan komma att påverka tillväxten i de boreala skogsekosystemen, men även riskerna med klimatförändringar. Anpassad skogsskötseln är ett sätt att både kunna utnyttja de nya förutsättningarna och hantera vissa potentiella risker samt minimera skador.

Jag arbetar också med hur skogen kan göra störst klimatnytta genom att ta upp/lagra mer koldioxid och hur man ska använda skogsråvaran på ett så optimalt sätt för att ge störst möjliga klimatnytta. Samverkan med skogsbruket och samhället i Sverige är en stor del av mitt arbete men jag har även mycket internationella aktiviteter.
