Bakgrund: Utbildad till sjuksköterska vid Röda Korsets Högskola i Stockholm, samt kandidat- och magisterexamen i internationell hälso- och sjukvård och folkhälsovetenskap, medicine doktor och docent i genus och medicin.

Katarina Swahnberg är och har varit medlem i och koordinator för flera internationella nätverk och forskargrupper som samlats kring frågor om våld mot kvinnor och har bl.a. utvecklat forskarutbildningskurser i genus och medicin, global hälsa, etik, vetenskapsteori och epidemiologi.

Katarina Swahnberg är professor i hälsovetenskap och global hälsa, ämnesföreträdare för hälsovetenskap vid Linnéuniversitetet och lärarrepresentant i Linnéuniversitetets styrelse.
