Dr. Sharafat Ali is an Associate Professor in the Department of Built Environment and Energy Technology. He holds a Master's degree in Material Process Technology (2002) from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Sweden, and a Ph.D. in Materials Chemistry (2009) from Stockholm University, Sweden and Postdoc in Glass Science from Linnaeus University, Sweden and Nagoya Institute of Technology, Japan (2009-2012).

Dr. Ali is an accomplished materials scientist specializing in high-temperature synthesis, advanced materials, and sustainable energy applications. With over two decades of experience spanning academia, research, and industry, Dr. Ali has made significant contributions to materials science, particularly in the areas of glass and ceramic materials, metal sintering, and the development of innovative thin films for high-tech applications.

Dr. Ali is deeply involved in research, teaching, and leadership. His work encompasses groundbreaking projects on nitrogen-rich glasses, oxide glasses, glass-ceramics, solid-state batteries, and glass recycling, supported by prestigious national and international collaborations.

Dr. Ali's industrial experience includes roles at Corning Incorporated, NY, USA, Volvo Wheel Loaders AB, and Swedish Steel AB, where his innovative solutions have enhanced productivity and material performance. As a dedicated educator, he has developed and taught diverse courses in materials science and sustainable energy systems, while mentoring Postdoc, Master's, and Bachelor's students.

Dr. Ali is a prolific researcher with over 60 publications, several patents, and numerous invited talks. His work has earned recognition through competitive grants from Vinnova, Åfors, Crafoord, JSPS, and LNU Advanced Materials, along with international acclaim for his development of  nitrogen rich glasses and transparent thin films.
