International Media Development: Concepts, Contexts and Challenges
7.5 credits
In this course you will acquire valuable tools for working with international media development. That media and journalism work well in different societies is a prerequisite for social sustainability and societal development in different parts of the world. You will learn how to handle basic concepts of the field such as program design, implementation, and evaluation. Equipped with these concepts and methods, we will explore documented, experience-based, and constructed case studies that show which challenges and obstacles occur in different projects of media development in an international context, for example within different media industries or systems of media regulations.
A particular focus area is gender-related challenges, for example the conditions for female journalists to be able to practice their profession. With these skills as a starting point, in this course you will work with solution-oriented practical scenarios within international media development. The course prepares you to develop and lead projects to develop media in different political, social, and cultural contexts.
This course is delivered in a hybrid format, with a series of mandatory digital course meetings where the entire course is gathered for workshops and seminar days.
