Research Seminar with Associate professor Christian Sandström, Linnaeus University – David versus Goliath: strategies to influence markets and politics

In this seminar, Associate Professor Christian Sandström will explore the interplay between entrant and incumbent firms under conditions of combined technological and regulatory change.

When technologies change, winners may at times be found among entrant firms while established players are toppled. Regulatory changes may also be a source of discontinuous change. Here, literature usually tells a story of regulatory capture, i.e. how vested interests captivate the political process and influence it to their favor. Little, is known, however, concerning conditions when both regulation and technology change. To understand this topic, existing theories need to be combined and further developed.

Christian Sandström, a leading scholar concerning disruptive innovation, is widely recognized for his work on historical and contemporary examples of technological change and their effects on established firms and entrants. In this seminar, he will discuss ongoing research in this area and potential venues for research.

This seminar is particularly relevant for scholars in strategy, management, and organization, but also more broadly for innovation, entrepreneurship, and information systems scholars.

The seminar will be held in English.

This seminar is organized by L&O group. No pre-registration required.
