Researching Professions: Contexts, Practices, and Collaboration

The course consists of lectures, seminars and assignment relating to five major themes, discussing basic approaches and theories in research of professions, their contexts, practices, and collaboration and, as well as contemporary trends affecting professional work and contexts.

Course content

The course includes five major themes:

  1. Approaches to the analysis of professions.
  2. Professional work and current trends: managerialism, evidence-based practice and AI.
  3. Changes in professional discretion performed through organisations and institutions.
  4. Interprofessional collaboration and boundary work.
  5. Individual student specialization, in which the student may choose to read in depth either on a certain theme in theory and research on professions, or on a specific profession.
